Malana Village - Trek to the Oldest Democracy In September 2019 at 10:30 AM, after an extended journey from Delhi to Kasol via Bhuntar, I was awaiting check-in at the hostel in Kasol. Two guys from the same hostel approached me to ask if I would like to join them for the Malana Village Trek .  "Malana Trek" is named after the notorious village of Malana, where India's ultimate Cannabis production occurs. So far, this was the only information I had about the site. However, after 2 hours of tedious trekking to this village and 30 minutes of walking through the deserted lanes of the settlement, I felt a different vibe. "Malana" - the name itself was enough for me to say "Yes" but I felt vulnerable and risk-taking on the inside. After a second thought, I thanked them for their offer but declined as I wanted to stick to my original plan of covering the Malana Trek as the last leg of my itinerary.
